H.A.C.E. owns and operates the only ambulance in and around a 20 mile radius of Governor’s Harbour, and is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers. Chris Gosling, H.A.C.E's chair, and his two assistant drivers are on call 24 hours a day and tirelessly respond to over 70 emergency calls a year. The entire cost of operating and staffing the ambulance (except insurance) falls on the shoulders of H.A.C.E.

The Health Association of Central Eleuthera (H.A.C.E.) was founded a quarter century ago with the goal of promoting the health and safety of the residents and visitors of the magical Bahamian island of Eleuthera.
In addition to running and supporting Eleuthera's ambulance, H.A.C.E's other activities include:
• Sponsorship of the biannual blood drive in Governors Harbour, Eleuthera
• Provision of emergency funds for medivac flights in cases of extreme financial hardship
• Purchase of medical equipment for the island such a pulse oxometers, fetal heart monitors, emergency beds, audiometers, AED units, etc.
• Purchase of equipment urgently needed by Eleuthera’s medical clinics, such as air conditioning units, computers, and other equipment
• Assisting local nurses with training
• Hosting medical seminars and related events for the community
